Frequently Asked Questions

I'm new to therapy, how do I get started?

Simply send us an email using our contact form or leave a message on our telephone and one of our expert clinicians will get back to you as soon as we can.

I don't know much about therapy, how will I know which approach is best for me?

It's very common for people for people to be unsure about which therapy will be most helpful. Usually we can tell simply from the description of your problem in your initial email what will be most helpful, often a free 15-minute consultation can help to narrow things down, and sometimes a 45-minute assessment helps to provide a clear overview of your difficulties and prioritise a main problem to work on. Either way, our expert clinicians are here to help you get to the right place from your very first contact.

What do you mean by "evidence-based" psychological interventions?

"Evidence-based" means that the type of therapy has been rigorously tested and scientifically proven to be effective for certain problems and is therefore recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). For example, a doctor wouldn't prescribe antibiotics for the flu - because we know that it wouldn't help. In the same way, we adhere to the evidence-base to ensure that our therapies are the most effective for your needs.

I'm not sure that I can afford to pay for private therapy, do you offer any concessions?

We know that private therapy can feel like a huge expense and we try to keep our costs as low as possible. We pride ourselves on recruiting the most talented and empathic therapists in our local areas and as a compromise, we offer reduced prices for remote sessions (video and telephone-based) and flexibility around the frequency of your appointments to spread out the cost each month.

I'm already on the waiting list for NHS-funded therapy, can I still access your services?

We fully support people accessing funded therapy through the NHS and local charities. We are aware that often, funded services are so stretched, that you might be waiting months before you begin your therapy.  We work very hard to keep our waiting list as close to zero as possible and, whilst we wouldn't recommend accessing two therapies at the same time, we are happy to support people whilst they wait for funded therapies.

I'm worried about a close friend or relative, can I access support for them?

It's common to notice signs of anxiety or low-mood in others before they are able to recognise it for themselves. We are happy to provide more information about our services so that the person in question can make an informed decision about whether they would like to engage in therapy with us. After all, that person has to be a willing participant for any therapy to work. However, we are not a crisis service and if you're worried about someone's safety, we would strongly urge you to access local crisis services or contact 999.
